Journalist fundraising for L2P with signed football shirts
Press Association journalist Nick Mashiter has used his extensive contacts in the football world to help raise £1000 towards his fundraising target for Cure Leukaemia’s London 2 Paris cycle ride in May.
Nick, from the Jewellery Quarter, is taking part in London 2 Paris: Inspiring the Revolution from May 19th – 23rd alongside former England, Wolves and Crystal Palace footballer and blood cancer survivor Geoff Thomas to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia, the charity that helped save Geoff’s life.
Nick has auctioned shirts signed by the current England, Stoke, Wolves and West Brom squads to help him towards his £1,500 target. His signed Southampton shirt will be available to bid for in the coming weeks. Nick has also got his hands on an additional shirt that could be extremely sought after in the coming weeks!
Nick said: “I rode London 2 Paris for Cure Leukaemia last year and couldn’t wait to sign up for this year’s ride. It was an amazing event, the best 4 days I have ever had on a bike, and the knowledge that the funds we raise go to a charity that helping find cures for all blood cancers is very inspiring.”
“I’m very grateful to the Football Association and the clubs who have donated signed shirts to help me reach my target and I think I will keep hold of the final shirt a little while longer!”
Cure Leukaemia Patron Geoff Thomas said: “it was great to wear an England shirt again to promote Nick’s fantastic fundraising idea. I’m sure there are many football fans around the country that will happily give generously to own these pieces of memorabilia. I’m confident this year’s event will be the best yet and I look forward to lining up alongside Nick in Greenwich this May.”
